Rowfoot
Has
been a working livestock farm since the 18th century;
these days we have rare breeds – Fell ponies and Manx Loghtan
sheep, the only sheep you can wear, eat, trample on - in carpet
form, obviously - and use as crook handles… don’t, whatever you
do, pick a quarrel with one.

The Old Dairy Cottage
Bureaucracy did for our artisan dairying business and for a few
years the sandstone byre languished unloved and uninhabited.
Then, with the expertise of two very local builder-brothers who
understand old and quirky buildings, we converted it into a luxury
holiday cottage for two.
There’s a small hall, a big bathroom, an open plan living room, a
garden room with lovely views across the fields and a bedroom with
a feature sandstone wall. It is all kitted out to the highest
standard, has many original features including a sign proclaiming
the virtues of the Simplex milking system and what’s more, the pub
is only a short walk down the road.

Armathwaite station on
the Carlisle/Settle railway is in the next village, the Lakes and
Hadrian’s Wall are nearby, there’s an indoor heated swimming pool
available at a very reasonable rate for private hire within five
minutes walk, we can advise on local walking, fishing, riding,
golf and culture but most of all, we find that guests just like to
relax, soak up some restorative Eden air and watch our world go
by. |
